Enjoy a Gluten-Free Halloween

by James Moore

There are many companies out there supplying gluten-free foods. However, as we’ve noticed over the years, gluten-free ‘stamps of approval’ are not always what they seem to be. With each food group comes a new set of worries for someone who lives with celiac disease and can not afford to risk eating foods that are not actually gluten-free.

Storehouse Foods is one name in the gluten-free industry that not only cares about the celiac sufferer, but was also built on the passionurl and dedication of an owner who wanted nothing more than to make sure  gluten-free, one-of-a kind foods would be available to the people who truly needed them.

Storehouse Foods is the unique company that created ‘Pouch 2 Plate’ meals for people on the go. They realized that in this world people are busy with life’s events. Whether they’re outdoor people who vacation or camp; business people who can not leave their desks during the day to enjoy a healthy lunch; or, even college coeds in a dorm that only has a microwave handy, ‘Pouch 2 Plate’ meals come with the easiness of needing only boiling water to make savory meals that taste like they’ve come out of a superior chef’s kitchen.

Seeing as that Storehouse Foods understands the gluten-free world, they have the ability to help and advise on other issues. Now that Halloween has arrived, worries come along with the trick-or-treaters knocking on the door. When it comes to gluten-free candy there are many choices available. In fact, it seems like every year more and more companies are coming out with gluten-free candy so that all ghosts and goblins can have a safe choice.

And, no, these choices are not ‘odd, unknown’ names. You are talking about Butterfinger, jelly beans and a list of Hershey’s candy longer than your arm for the kids, no matter if they need gluten-free or not.

Just for a little fun (and always to gain a little knowledge), Hershey’s is one of the oldest and most trusted names when it comes to the candy business. It was back in 1876, when an 18-year-old boy named Milton opened his first shop in Philadelphia. Moving onwards and upwards, Milton moved to Denver about six years later and learned all about caramel-making. With more knowledge behind him, his passion grew, and in 1886 Milton Hershey returned home to Lancaster and the Lancaster Caramel Company was born.

Continuing to learn everything he could, Milton began the Hershey Chocolate Company in 1894, and went about producing the best of the best when it came to chocolate caramels, sweet and baking chocolate, and more. Turning his focus just on the chocolate, popular candy was introduced and they’re still with us a century later. Almond Joy, Mounds, Kit Kat – you name it, America enjoys it. And when it comes to gluten-free candy choices, Hershey’s provides a wealth of delicious choices that are no way harmful to celiac sufferers who need to think of their health first.

There are a list of others, as well. Of course, the best advice is to always read the label when it comes to your choices. Nestle USA is there for your candy-giving-out needs, and when it comes to Mars, they also provide some gluten-free choices. Tootsie Roll Industries has already announced that as of October 2013, all of their candy (not cookie) creations are considered gluten-free. They announced to the world that: ‘Tootsie does not use wheat, barley, rye, oats…or any of their components either as ingredients or as part of the manufacturing process.’ So all is well with the Tootsie name for Halloween.

The age-old and well-trusted Hershey’s provides a huge list to consumers about what products are gluten-free so that they can allay all fears and have a Happy Halloween.

Of course, when the candy is passed out and you want a real meal to savor – your ‘Pouch 2 Plate’ is the best choice to make!
